About Africa Tour Guide

Africa, the planet’s 2nd largest continent and the second most populous contient (afetr Asia) includes 54 individual countries. Africa is surrounded by the mediterranean Sea to the north, both the Suez Canal and the Red Sea along the Sinai Peninsula to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the east and southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.

Culture
Rather than one culture, Africa has a number of cultures that overlap. The most conventional distinction is that between sub-Saharan Africa and the northern countries from Egypt to Morocco, who largely associate themselves with Arabic culture. In this comparison, the nations to the south of the Sahara are considered to consist of many cultural areas, in particular that of the Bantu linguistic group.
Divisions may also be made between Francophone Africa and the rest of Africa, in particular the former British colonies of southern and East Africa. Another cultural fault-line is that between those Africans living traditional lifestyles and those who are essentially modern. The traditionalists are sometimes subdivided into pastoralists and agriculturalists.

Languages
By most estimates Africa contains well over a thousands languages. Most languages spoken  in Africa belong to one of three large language families: Afroasiatic, Nilo-Saharan, and Niger-Congo. Another hundred belong to small families such as Ubangian  and the various families called Khoisan, or the Indo- European and Austronesian language families which originated outside Africa.

Religion
Africa is home to many different religious traditions. All of the great world religious traditions are in Africa including Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism. However, the vast majority of Africans from across the continent identify themselves with one of three religious traditions: indigenous African religions, Islam, and Christianity.

Geography
The continent of Africa borders the southern half of the Mediterranean Sea. The Atlantic Ocean is to the west and the Indian Ocean is to the Southeast. Africa stretches well south of the equator to cover more than 12 million square miles making Africa the world’s second largest continent . Africa is also the world’s second most populous continent.
